zshell

Quick Launch

Save the commands and SSH connections you start over and over, and launch any of them with one keystroke.

Cmd+O opens Quick Launch: a searchable list of launch entries that each open a new project with a terminal session. A saved entry is either a command — anything you type often, like npm run dev or make watch — or an SSH connection.

Launching

Type a name, command, connection target, or group to fuzzy-filter the list. Click a row, or select it with the arrow keys and press Return. The entry runs in a fresh project named after the entry, with its own terminal session and directory.

When the command finishes or the connection closes, the pane drops back to a normal shell prompt instead of disappearing. Nothing you launched can quietly close itself.

You can also run a saved entry by name from any Zshell terminal:

zshell "Entry name"

Use the entry's exact name, with quotes if it contains spaces. The hint at the bottom of Quick Launch shows this syntax. The entry opens in a new project.

Managing entries

  • Cmd+N — new entry
  • Cmd+E — edit the selected entry
  • Cmd+Delete — delete the selected entry

Use the optional Group field to organize entries into named sections. The edit and delete buttons act on their entry without launching it.

A command entry can pin a working directory it always starts in; without one it uses the default directory for a new project. An SSH entry takes the host, an optional user and port, and free-form extra ssh options such as -L 8080:localhost:80.

Where entries live

Entries are saved to ~/.config/zshell/quick-launch.json and are shared by every window. They are plain user data — edit the file, or back it up, freely.

Commands run through your login shell, so they see your profile environment. The pane itself is a regular session afterwards, with your aliases and prompt intact.
